Project Mobility in Wales Rally GB shakedown

One of the biggest attractions at this year’s JLT Tempest Rally is set to be the Project Mobility 4x4 Team which will be using the event as part of its preparations to competing in the 2014 Dakar Rally and as a shakedown to entry at Wales Rally GB

The Project Mobility venture aims to engage, involve and inspire injured military personnel, and the wider disabled community, to participate in motorsport and off-roading activities;  driving through adversity – from behind the wheel.

The team is dedicated to helping those injured and disabled regain independence, confidence and mobility and helps ordinary people achieve extraordinary things – in this case competing in one of the country’s leading rallies on Saturday November 5 at Aldershot.

Taking part in the Tempest Rally will be Major James Cameron of 2nd Royal Tank Regiment and Sergeant Allan Jackson of 3 Parachute Regiment in a 1.8  Adapted Landrover , alongside the service crew of abled and differently abled bodied servicemen and civilians.

The Team are fresh from rallies in Yorkshire, North Wales and Somerset.

James is a keen racer and track day driver, instructing both at UK circuits and at the the Nürburgring in Germany.  Competition has been a more recent development, and he competed successfully in a number of series over the last two seasons, and is supporting the Project by being their driver for this Rally.

James said "We are very grateful to the organisers of the Tempest Rally for their warm welcome, it's a legendary date in the annual calendar and a fantastic opportunity for more of the team to get stage rally experience. On a personal note I am delighted to be partnered up with Allan and we are looking forward to the event"

Co-driver Allan is a single leg below the knee amputee due to an IED whilst on tour in Afghanistan. He has always been interested in motorsport and Project Mobility are now able to offer him his first experience as a co-driver which he is very much looking forward too.
The team are delighted to announce that they will also be joined by Andrew Bargery and Trevor Agnew

Andrew is a professional mentor of Project Mobility imparting his experience as a co-driver. His co-driving since 1993 has led him to entering the British Rally Championships and achieving high results. The team is grateful for his input and he will be giving vital assistance and knowledge to the team.

Trevor Agnew, ex-WRC Champion Co-Driver, whom in 2003 partnered with the infamous Martin Rowe is a staunch supporter of the Project and his advice and driver coaching all comes into play leading unto the teams entry into the Wales GB Nationals. The team are delighted to be joined by Trevor again at the Tempest after the last visit at Lydden Hill.

With two professional co-drivers and recent training with the Projects Patron Nicky Grist, Allan Jackson will be well prepared for his outing at the event with useful feedback and critiquing in post event analysis.

JLT Tempest Rallies manager Barry Guess said he was delighted the team had chosen to include the Hampshire-based event in its calendar.

“The Aldershot area is the home of the British Army so it is fitting that an organisation dedicated to helping former servicemen and women is involved in the Tempest Rallies based in the town,’’ said Barry. “And there will be plenty of opportunity for spectators to support the crew in rally stages at Rushmoor Arena and nearby Yately and Warren Heath forests.’’
