Project Mobility started life as a simple idea to adapt some old Land Rovers into overland and off road machines for those with a disability or amputation.
Project Mobility offers practical help and emotional support through the conversion of 4x4 vehicles so they can be driven by amputees, or those with disabilities affecting driving. It also gives wounded ex-servicemen the chance to enjoy adventure and new challenges through off-road Safari experiences.
2010 saw 6 vehicles converted on a meager budget of £10,000; achieved through donations and fundraising, supplemented with £15,000 of parts from sponsors. See our builds.
In 2011 the PROJECT was featured on Top Gear - though many other organisations claim this was them! Project Mobility was the FIRST organisation of its kind to offer rallying for injured servicemen and the disabled community at large, from the Project's involvement beneficiaries have gone off to start their own organisations including Race2Recovery and MissionMotorsport. Project Mobility is very proud to have been at the start of these individuals journey's.
With an increasing number of disabilities caused from current conflict and previous deployment, Project Mobility’s focus has shifted. The not for profit organisation now seeks to harness the skills, mindset and discipline of service personnel to set up and drive three inspiring initiatives that will challenge and bring hope to injured service personnel, employment as well as benefiting the wider community. Injured service personnel leading initatives to provide employment, opportunity and hope.
We are working with a military team on driving the Project forwards with training, offroading, rallying and a workshop facility for giving the disabled beneficiaries experiences and qualifications for the future...its now housed at Tidmouth in Wiltshire under the direction of Chris, Andy and Trevor (click their names to email)
